Design and Art Style Research
I explore different art style to match my topic about pet abuse.
All my artstyle and benchmark are reference from the library. I will make it less vector (more depth and strokes) because it gives a more realistic view towards the audiences.

I am still discovering more artwork that can inspires me to create my work. These picture above shows the artstyle reference that I want to learn and try out for my artefact.

A good Message get people's attention
The message, the line read by the audience is crucial to make the campaign work and gain attention. Many campaign uses strong headlines to bring out the attention of people to look into their things.
some good example that I found that is similar to my topic.
These posters are all about animal abuse. Headline makes people to decide whether they convince their audience to pay more attention to it. A good headline will have an emotional attachment to its audience. Therefore, as I'm doing research about animal abuse, I found out that I need to come out with an inspiring and touching message that brings attention to my work.
In these poster, they uses different method to create their headline message. Some are in a sarcastic and insulting way and some are pitiful and sympathetic. Images also helps the message to be more impactful.
Video is also one good way to let the audience to have a better look and know what is happening to the animal. Back then, I watched a video from youtube that has a straight and direct title 'Shocking Animal Cruelty at Tyson Foods Supplier'.

I feel the anger within myself after watching this video. How could these people treat them these way? Why nobody stop them from doing this? I had lots of question in my head. I want to help but I do not have the ability to do so. But, I also found out that this video went viral and things changed. It went on the News and made changed to what had happened.
After all these findings, I found an important thing that I have to emphasis in my work which is the importance of message. The content shown has to be impactful to the user too and makes people talks about it. When some one talks about it to one another, they are actually spreading the news to the other. This is how things gain virality and creates an awareness. To make my artefact as good as these in a create and interactive way, I will need a impactful core message and a good narrative story that let the audience think and take action.
User Behavior
I will study the behaviour of different people and how they act to animal cruelty.
Based on my study from various websites and pages or groups created in Facebook, I noticed there's 2 major group of people.
One is the "Saviour" and the other one is the "Abuser". They both has different perception of thinking and this leads people to treat animal differently.
I found this article about dog abuse video that gone viral and the person who did this was caught.
http://wtvr.com/2014/02/28/facebook-dog-abuse-video/
But, there are also people who are abusing unintentionally and unknowingly. Many pet owner do not know they pet well and the harm inflicting on to the pet is in fact abuse. Pet abuse occurs because of many unintentional factors. For example, some owner neglected their dog because of work and their basic needs are not met.
After all these studies from various articles and news, I learn that I need to create my artefact that makes the user understand the consequences of pet abuse.
Website > Interactivity > Animal abuse
I want to make a narrative story where the user will click in the scenes to continue engaging with the story.
Storyline [First Draft]
1. At user perspective, the story starts with a dog caught and brutally put in the truck. The dog was sent away to the dog adoption centre.
2. User view the truck driving into the place with lots of dogs barking and wounded. Some mens were beating the dogs.
3. Saw a buyer came, want to get a fierce dog to guard house, few dogs were given to choose.
4. the owner brings the dog back home, putting it outside and treat it badly, beat and scold it. The dog looks scared having its tail tucked between its leg.
5. Whenever anybody goes near the dog its scared and to protect itself it barks fiercely to stop them from going near.
6.Owner is satisfied but still beat it making it fear and will not disobey him.
7.The dog not treated in good condition, put under hot sun all day.
8. Neighbour saw and call for help, telling owner this is abuse.
9. Owner does not care, and continue doing so, dog dies.
.
.
.
.
As I develop this story, I noticed that this is not engaging enough and the storyline is not really good. It only tells that the dog is abused but this only informs the user, not making them taking action about this matter. The story itself is also not interesting enough and jumpy. Will further develop it and more research about pet abuse to polish the story.

Animal abuse and Pet abuse
I always had this thought that Pet abuse = Animal abuse but NO. Both Pet abuse and Animal Abuse are two different thing. It is both same that the abuse is caused by humans but the way that they are abused differs from each other.
Pet Abuse
- Owner treat their pet wrongly. Some of them knows that it is wrong but still do so, while some thought that their are doing right but actually not.
For example, The owner put their pet in the car without the seat belt buckled up. This may lead to accident as the dog are not restrained and it can disturb the driver
Animal Abuse
- Humans abuse animals in many ways like Hunting, destroying their homeland or used as white mouse as experiments.
I scope down and choose to do pet abuse for the project.
